REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is the epitome of foot massages.

Treatment description and therapist thoughts

Reflexology is the epitome of foot massages. It uses a variety of techniques to apply pressure to your feet, through various reflex points to ease tension and issues in the whole body. It is thought that the feet are a map to all the organs, glands and parts of the body and that by applying pressure and massaging these points (known as reflex points) you can positively affect the whole person. So, whatever the problem you had; sore shoulders, digestive issues, or headaches (to name just a few) we can help with by working on the feet.

Not only can we work the whole body through the reflex points, but it is also an incredible foot massage. So those tired and achy feet you have been stood on all day or those swollen ankles that have been hurting for days, this is the massage that can help. It’s such a gentle and soothing massage that your feet feel like they are walking on clouds when you get up.

If you book a longer treatment, Reflexology can also be done on the hands as well, and just like the feet we can work the whole body through points on the hands as well as giving you an incredible hand massage.

While most people think of reflexology being a purely foot-based treatment, our bodies have many tiny maps which can be used to influence our whole body. if you don't like having your feet worked on, why not have a chat to Rachel about her facial reflexology treatments?

A truly holistic treatment, and as we tailor all our treatments to create a massage to suit you, it gives you the best possible experience!

History

The origins of Reflexology, date back to 2500BC to ancient Egypt. Evidence found on ancient papyrus (written documentation) and wall painting from inside the tomb of one of Egypt’s best-known physicians illustrates that reflexology was used by medical practitioners, to aid with health issues. The practitioners can be seen performing a massages to the hands and feet. There is also further evidence from China, Japan and India showing healing being done through massaging the feet. Even more evidence was found in ancient Greece in a health spa called “The Delphi” where massage, hydrotherapy and Reflexology were used to promote relaxation and well-being.

It has been suggested that much of the theory and documentation on the reflex maps and techniques used from ancient Greece, Egypt and the far East has been lost over time or destroyed in the fire in the great library in Alexandria.

Through the ages the knowledge has been passed down through physicians, until the modern day where it is left in the hands of qualified massage therapists and reflexologists to bring you this wonderfully holistic treatment.
