INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Insian Head massage is the epitome of head massages.

Treatment description and therapist thoughts

Indian Head massage is the epitome of head massages. The therapist carefully kneads the muscles around the head, neck, and upper portion of the body to help stimulate these areas to relieve tension and promote blood flow. It often also includes stimulating pressure points around the face.

Poor diet, everyday stress, lack of fresh air and exercise can all lead to problems surrounding the head, neck and shoulders, and Indian head massage is a gentle yet effective therapy often bringing immediate relief. After a long, tiring week, consider this head massage and you will absolutely feel the difference.

This treatment is traditionally practiced in a chair, although we have adapted it and now do this treatment lay down on our massage table to allow for a more effective massage, it has a spiritual side to it, beginning and ending with some balancing work on your crown, third eye, throat and heart chakras, this is followed by deep but relaxing massage techniques and pressure points to the shoulders, massage and stretches to the neck to loosen and relieve the tension, this is followed by relaxing and invigorating scalp massage which encourages blood flow to the scalp, improving skin and hair condition (the coconut oil also makes a lovely hair mask if you leave it in for a while). The treatment ends with a face massage, this alone is a very effective treatment, we express our pain and stress in our faces and so we hold tension here, at times having your face massage can be as relaxing as a full body massage, it is the perfect way to end your treatment.

Many of us carry a large amount of tension in our neck and shoulders, often from too much driving or sitting at a desk staring at a computer. This results in headaches, neck and shoulder pain, trouble sleeping, and many more such symptoms. Indian Head Massage is a treatment focusing on this area, helping to eliminate the pain and discomfort you are suffering from.

If you book a longer treatment, you can combine it with other treatments such as body massage or reflexology to create a truly holistic treatment, and as we tailor all our treatments to create a massage to suit you, it gives you the best possible experience!

History

Indian head massage, also known as Champissage, has been practiced in India for over 1000 years. It was developed by holy men (Rishis) in the Himalayas who practice the ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda.

When it started it was centred around the head alone with the aim of improving Indian women’s’ hair growth and condition. I was originally developed as part of a grooming and bonding ritual which was passed down through generations of Indian families. It played a very important part in ceremonies of birth and marriage.

Through the ages the knowledge has been passed down through families, until the modern day where it is left in the hands of qualified massage therapists to bring you this wonderfully holistic treatment.
